Acute Appendagitis Presenting with Features of Appendicitis: Value of Abdominal CT Evaluation
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report a case of acute appendagitis in a patient who presented initially with typical features of acute appendicitis. The diagnosis of acute appendagitis was made on pathognomonic signs on computed tomography (CT) scan. Abdominal pain is a common surgical emergency. CT is not always done if there are clear features of acute appendicitis. The rare but important differential diagnosis of acute appendagitis must be borne in mind when dealing with patients with suspected acute appendicitis. A CT scan of the abdomen may avoid unnecessary surgery in these patients.

Epiploic Appendagitis: An uncommon surgical diagnosis.
Epiploic appendagitis or appendices epiploicae, is a rare cause of abdominal pain in patients with mild signs of abdominal pathology. It mimics diverticulitis or appendicitis clinically as there are no pathognomonic features. It is a surgical diagnosis presenting with localised, sharp, acute abdominal pain, not associated with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, fever or suggestive laboratory value...

Epiploic appendagitis (EA) is an unusual cause of focal abdominal pain in otherwise healthy patients with mild or absent secondary signs of abdominal disorders. It is most frequently confused with acute appendicitis and diverticulitis. EA is very infrequently diagnosed, in part due to a low or absent awareness of this condition among general surgeons. We aim to draw attention to EA by presentin...

Epiploic appendagitis (EA) is a rare cause of acute abdominal pain caused by inflammation of an epiploic appendage. It has a nonspecific clinical presentation that may mimic other acute abdominal pathologies on physical exam, such as appendicitis, diverticulitis, or cholecystitis. However, EA is usually benign and self-limiting and can be treated conservatively. We present the case of a patient...

Epiploic appendagitis is a benign self-limiting inflammation of the appendices epiplocae of the colon. It often presents as abdominal pain rarely accompanied by fever, nausea, or vomiting or any other abdominal symptoms. It can mimick acute diverticulitis or appendicitis on clinical exam. The diagnosis of epiploic appendagitis primarily relies on imaging modalities such as CT. The treatment is ...

A 62-year-old man presented to the emergency department with sustained left-sided abdominal pain. An examination revealed abdominal tenderness localized the left paraumbilical region. Ultrasonography showed an oval, noncompressible lesion with heterogeneous echotexture located at the point of tenderness (Picture 1). Abdominal computed tomography revealed an oval-shaped fat-dense lesion with a t...
